The evolution of me!

I hope this is not another Black In Latin America Afro-Saxon documentary

He said that race in Brasil would be a big topic of the documentary. I am very wary of black folk from the U.S. framing the discussion/dialogue/film on race in Latin American countries..

One because race in the U.S. IS NOT THE SAME as race in Latin America.. I don’t wanna hear any more compare and contrast frankly I don’t even wanna hear Spike Lee.. I think the Afro-Brasilians in the documentary should be discussing race in this film.. 

But right out the gate he has said some side-eye worthy statements… such as:

My ancestors were freed in 1865 and in Brazil slavery was abolished in 1888. It is a small difference, but if we compare the evolution of African-Americans and Afro-Brazilians, we are 20 years ahead”

and one of the interviewees said this about spike lee:

Ribeiro got the impression that Lee thought that black Brazilians were a little soft. Spike went on to say that the abolition of slavery in the US occurred only twenty years (actually twenty five) before the Brazilian abolition, that African-Americans had progressed much further and wondered why black people in Brazil hadn’t turned the tables.

I really hope he ain’t gonna come with this blind throw context and history to the wind boot strap shit..

I’m trying to remain pessimistically hopeful but people from the U.S. seem to fuck up royally when discussing Latin American issues of race.. One because of arrogance and ignorance… and maybe even feelings of cultural superiority…

Spike don’t fuck up.. I’m not gonna hold my breath..

I really don’t wanna hear from people from the U.S. I want to hear from Afro Brasilians…

I believe you have to live a story to tell it with any ounce of correctness/relevance
